NEWS FROM CAPITAL DENTAL EQUIPMENT

by John Babineau, D.M.D., Chief Dental Officer

In our continued effort to improve our products and services, I am pleased to announce the addition of 4 new members to the Capital Dental Equipment technician team. Our technicians go to factory training at both Carestream and Vatech to lean the in and outs of each machine from both manufacturers.

That is how we know that when we send an imaging machine to one of our customers, that we are confident that the machine is up to the manufacturer’s specifications for each model.

One question that I hear from doctors when looking at adding 3D imaging to their practice is how to use or read a 3D or Cone Beam image. If you purchase a Carestream or Vatech machine for Capital Dental Equipment, we will include a training package to get you up and running quickly.

Additionally, if any of you are interested in a CBCT anatomy video produced by Dr. Vijay Parashar, please send me a email DrJohn.Babineau@USDentalSolutions.com and I can send it to you via Google Drive or Drop Box.

Marketing: Today's Kingmaker

by Mark Del Bosque, Marketing Manager

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? This age-old riddle could also be applied to business. If you are the best [insert industry role here] and no one knows about you, are you really the best? The answer is probably not. Not because you're not skilled or efficient, or innovative but because you're not good at marketing.

What exactly is marketing? Marketing is how the world perceives your business and its capabilities. Say that you’re the best and you have to prove it. Marketing helps get the word out and helps you shine above your competition. Coming up with a better way to say what you say every day or making beans popular with today's youngest generation is just a sample of what marketing can do to a product or service.

Follow up question: What is good marketing? Enter Don Draper. This fictitious character from the show Mad Men, is the personification of a marketer. He is creative, he is relentless, and he knows the value of a good tagline. Although the show was highly dramatized, many of the aspects are true. The best marketing is subtle, it creeps up in your mind when you're nodding off to sleep or even better makes you feel like you made the choice all on your own. Like the Ninja, the best ads are never seen.

With a focus on social media and digital content we are surrounded by marketing and what the kids are calling aesthetics. The look and feel of a brand is just as important as what they are saying. Marketing sets the stage, cues the lights, and fills the seats of your own personal theater. Just make sure you know your lines.

Adventures in the great North.

by Brig. Gen.Sean Ryan, Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Dental Health Management Solutions (DHMS) Military Department provides Remote Area Dental Services to Soldiers and families at Fort Greely, Alaska.

Teaming with United Concordia, DHMS provides restorative and preventative dental services to Soldiers and their families at Fort Greely, Alaska. As United Concordia’s provider, DHMS set-up and conducted remote dental services for Soldiers and families over a five-day period.

Fort Greely is a United States Army launch site for anti-ballistic missiles and among the military's most remote duty posts on U.S. soil: an hour's drive to the nearest city, Fairbanks, and another six to Anchorage. It is also the home of the Cold Regions Test Center (CRTC), as Fort Greely is one of the coldest areas in Alaska, and can accommodate cold, extreme-cold, and temperate-weather tests depending on the season. It is named in honor of Major General Adolphus Greely. Fort Greely is home to the 49th Missile Defense Battalion which is comprised of 130 full-time Military Police (MP) jobs and supported by National Guard soldiers. The Alaska National Guard provides many soldiers for this mission. Additionally, there are over 60 Puerto Rico National Guard soldiers and their families assigned to the unit. These soldiers spend three to five years on 24-hour alert, tasked with keeping sensitive technology secure. With such an important mission, and rotating on a 24-hour schedule, it is difficult for soldiers and their families to obtain dental services and maintain the readiness required.

Every 6 months, DHMS ships equipment from Texas, staff’s Dental professionals and sets-up a fully functional Dental office to perform restorative and preventative services. This onsite service affords the Soldiers and their family members to schedule appointments around their schedules and eliminates the need to travel long distances or in hazardous weather. For a five-day period, from Wednesday through Sunday, DHMS sets up on base in the Aurora Community Activity Center. DHMS provides full-time Dentists, Hygienists, X-Ray technicians and Registered Dental Assistants. As a supporter of Soldiers since 2003, DHMS truly enjoys supporting these amazing soldiers and their families as they conduct an essential mission, in a very austere and remote area, to ensure our Nation's security.

Brigadier General (Ret) Sean Ryan, COO, DHMS.
